                   AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING THE SUM OF FIFTY 
                   THOUSAND AND N0/100 DOLLARS ($50,000.00) TO 
                   THE CHALLENGER LEARNING AND TEACHING CENTER 
                   OF CHATTANOOGA, A 501(C)(3) ORGANIZATION, 
                   FOR PARTIAL FUNDING FOR A CHALLENGER 
                   LEARNING AND TEACHING CENTER IN CHATTANOOGA, 
                   WHICH IS TO BE A SPACE-RELATED EDUCATIONAL 
                   FACILITY TO INCREASE THE INTEREST OF THE 
                   CITY OF CHATTANOOGA AND HAMILTON COUNTY 
                   MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS IN SCIENCE, MATH AND 
                   TECHNOLOGY STUDIES AND CAREERS, AND 
                   EXPRESSING THE CITY'S INTENT TO APPROPRIATE 
                   UP TO ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND AND NO/100 
                   DOLLARS ($100,000.00) ANNUALLY FOR TWO (2)

       	    	 WHEREAS, the Challenger Learning and Teaching Center of 
       Chattanooga has been established in Chattanooga; and
       	    	 WHEREAS, funds have been requested to operate facilities 
       and programs to help students develop scientific problem-solving 
       skills and overcome illiteracy in the field of science and 
       technologies; and
       	    	 WHEREAS, this is to be an innovative, space-related 
       educational facility to increase the interest of students of 
       Chattanooga and Hamilton County in the areas of science, 
       mathematics and technology;
                                NOW, THEREFORE,
       	    	 BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF 
       CHATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE, That:
       	    	 SECTION 1.  The sum of $50,000.00 be appropriated to the 
       Challenger Learning and Teaching Center of Chattanooga which sum 
       shall be payable from the Contingency Fund of the City of 
       Chattanooga.
       	    	 SECTION 2.  The City Council expresses its intent to 
       appropriate up to $100,000.00 per year to said project for the 
       next two (2) years.
       	    	 SECTION 3.  This ordinance shall take effect two (2) 
       weeks from and after its passage as required by law.
